Relaxing Indian pre-wedding events in the heart of Italy

Neesha and Karan are a young couple of university professors, from Cambridge and Oxford, who decided to celebrate their Hindu wedding in the heart of Italy among the green hills of Umbria. The couple wanted a relaxing wedding, without any stress. They invited family and close friends, a small group of about 80 guests. There was a large prevalence of non-Indian guests who joined the newlyweds in a beautiful castle located on a panoramic hill.

Although most of the guests were not Indian, the couple certainly did not want to give up their Hindu traditions. They wanted to involve their friends in these celebrations to show their culture, but without the stress of having too many events in one day, as often happens in weddings at home. As a matter of fact, their keywords were: fantastic views, relax and enjoying the celebrations together.

Of course, Indian food could not be missed, in fact the couple decided to have most of the meals with Indian cuisine. Thanks to our consolidated relationship with the castle, it was not difficult to organize Indian menus in collaboration with an Indian caterer.

The celebrations took place over three days with five events. We started with the Welcome Party. What better way to open the celebrations than with a typical pizza party with a limoncello and prosecco corner, a gelato cart and a beautiful sunset over the hills. There was no need for a lavish setup, since the terrace was already beautiful, just a few floral touches were enough to complete the backdrop. And thanks also to the good food the atmosphere was simply perfect.

Fun Indian traditional pre-wedding events

The couple loves to travel, they have visited several countries, they are very outdoorsy and love to collect photos from all these trips. In fact, to highlight this passion of theirs, we created a photo board to initially display the best moments from each of their trips. Then during the events, the guests had polaroid cameras at their disposal to take pictures and add them to the board to have new photos every day that best reflected the moments they were experiencing.

The second day of the celebrations in Italy there were traditional Indian pre-wedding events of Haldi, Mehndi and Sangeet. For Haldi the theme was obviously yellow, with a touch of white. We decorated a gazebo under which the bride and groom would be and added marigold garlands to decorate the terrace. The bride and groom wanted to make this traditional moment even more fun with a petal shower and holi powder toss. It was a lot of fun and picture perfect!

In the afternoon the bride started her bridal mehndi with our talented mehndi artist, which then continued during the evening when the guests also had the chance to get their hands decorated.

For Sangeet another terrace of the castle was used, above the pool and with a garden next to it. We set it up with blue and fuchsia fabrics, Indian umbrellas and strings of colored lights in red, blue, green, yellow, and with food stalls of Indian street food made live by the chefs. A stunning setting for a dynamic evening, which continued with the typical Gujarat Garba dance performed with Dandiya sticks brought by the newlyweds, and performances by the guests (including non-Indian friends!). It was definitely a colorful, fun and lively night just as a typical Sangeet should be.
